Hello, I’m Alyssa McPherson!

Bentonville Breastfeeding Lactation Consultant Alyssa McPherson

My breastfeeding journey began with the birth of my first baby in 1990. My son was born 6 weeks early and spent his first 11 days in the NICU, gaining weight and overcoming jaundice, which made him too sleepy for feedings. My breast pump became my constant companion for those first few weeks, helping to establish my milk supply and provide my baby with “liquid gold”. Thankfully, our postpartum and NICU nurses encouraged and supported me in doing the best thing for my baby and luckily, my son transitioned quickly to breastfeeding once he was home.

Over the next few months, I sought breastfeeding and parenting support from other mothers in my community through my local La Leche League group. With their support and friendship, my rocky start at breastfeeding turned into a happy nursing relationship. I quickly decided that I wanted to give back to my community by helping other new moms and babies, and I became an accredited La Leche League Leader after the birth of my second baby. I proudly served as a group leader and mentor to new leaders, throughout Southern CA and Nevada, for the next 20 years.

Today, I am the proud mother of 6 formerly breastfed babies (almost all grown) and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. Since my certification in 2011 I’ve served breastfeeding families by teaching breastfeeding classes, facilitating breastfeeding support groups, working hospital inpatient and outpatient, in the NICU and by having my own private practice. My passion is providing evidence-based information and loving support so that new moms and babies are able to overcome their unique breastfeeding challenges and meet their breastfeeding goals. Every baby, mama, and family is special. I look forward to meeting you!
